Please understand that our physical facilities are designed as a peaceful, permanent sanctuary for felines dealing with severe, terminal, and complex medical challenges. Because our specialized room space and medical resources are strictly limited, we cannot offer open-door, automatic intakes.
Every single potential intake request is evaluated cautiously on a strict, individual case-by-case basis. We must prioritize our existing 120 residents' health, immune safety, and emotional stability above all else, and we can only open a new slot when our administrative capacity and room metrics safely allow it.
Because the Haven operates as a specialized, cage-free hospice for 120 special-needs felines, we maintain strict operational boundaries to keep our residents safe, healthy, and compliant with local regulations. Below is the direct truth regarding our intake policies, local drop-offs, and community programs.
📥 1. Intake, Surrenders, & Stray Feline Policies
Mandatory Surrender Protocols & Medical Requirements:
- 📍 Location of Intake: All owner surrenders and appointments take place exclusively at our public commercial office: Business Center, 191 S. McCall Road, Englewood, FL 34224. In strict compliance with local zoning guidelines, our residential sanctuary is designated as a private haven for the cats and is completely closed to public business operations and public foot traffic. .
- Englewood Animal Hospital Partnership: All kitties must be fully vetted before coming into our care. If a cat does not have up-to-date paperwork for all requirements, the procedures and updates must take place at Englewood Animal Hospital before the surrender can happen.
- Required Medical Vetting: You must provide clear certificates showing the kitty has completed:
- Spayed or Neutered surgical treatment (if needed)
- Fecal Examination and proper De-worming according to the results
- Current Rabies Vaccination
- 4-in-1 Shot (FVRCP Vaccine): This protects against 3 highly contagious and life-threatening feline diseases: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR), Feline Calicivirus (C), and Feline Panleukopenia (P).
- SNAP Test for FIV & Feline Leukemia: Screens for antibodies and virus. Note: If the SNAP test is positive for FeLV or FIV, we can still take the kitties in if our specialized hospice has an open slot!
- Full Flea & Tick Treatment
- Suggested Surrender Fee: There is a suggested Surrender Fee of $200.00 per kitty to help cover their lifetime care and provisions in our sanctuary hospice.
- Plastic Carrier Mandate: On the day of your appointment, all kitties MUST be in a sturdy plastic cat carrier (no soft carriers, black wire cages, boxes, or bags). The plastic carrier will stay permanently with your kitty. If you need it back, you may pick it up at the Business Center the following day.
- Arrival Procedures: When you arrive, please leave the kitty or kitties safely in your car with the engine running and the air conditioning ON. Bring your vet records and a Photo ID inside to fill out the surrender forms. Rick or Chrissy will come out to your vehicle to greet you and safely transfer the carrier.
- Mandatory Call-In Rule: You must call Rick at (941) 623-8904 the day before the surrender, and once again the day of, right before you leave your home..
